English Translation for Hekayat

Although the sultan's robe is precious, one's own simple clothes are more honorable, and although the feast of the great is delicious, a morsel from one's own bag is more delightful.

Vinegar from one's own hard work and herbs,

Is better than the landlord's bread and lamb.

Saadi's wisdom here emphasizes the value of self-reliance and the satisfaction derived from one's own efforts. It teaches us that personal achievements and the fruits of our labor are more meaningful and fulfilling than the luxuries provided by others. Saadi's timeless insights continue to offer valuable lessons on the dignity of self-sufficiency and the joy of simple, honest living.
