English Translation for Hekayat

Lying leaves a lasting wound that even if healed, the scar remains. Just like the brothers of Joseph, who were known for their lies, were not trusted even when they spoke the truth. 'No, your souls have enticed you to something.'

One who is accustomed to honesty,

If they make a mistake, they are forgiven.

But if one is known for lying,

Even their truth will not be believed.

Saadi's wisdom here highlights the enduring consequences of dishonesty. It teaches us that a reputation for lying can permanently damage one's credibility, making it difficult for others to trust even truthful statements. Saadi's timeless insights continue to offer valuable lessons on the importance of integrity and the lasting impact of one's actions on their reputation.
