خورشید به گِل نَهُفت می‌نتوانم

و اسرار زمانه گفت می‌نتوانم

از بحر تفکرم برآورد خرد

دُرّی که ز بیم سُفت می‌نتوانم

Description:

A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam

English Translation:

I cannot hide the sun in the mud,
Nor can I reveal the secrets of time.

Wisdom, born from the sea of my thoughts,
Is a pearl that I cannot conceal out of fear.

Analysis of the Rubai

This quatrain by Omar Khayyam presents a complex interplay of knowledge, truth, and the limitations of human expression.

The Inevitability of Truth: The first line suggests that truth, like the sun, cannot be hidden. It is a powerful metaphor for the idea that knowledge, once acquired, cannot be suppressed.
The Mysteries of Time: The second line acknowledges the enigmatic nature of time and its secrets. It implies that the passage of time and the events it brings are often beyond human comprehension.
The Birth of Wisdom: The third line describes wisdom as a pearl, a precious gem that is born from deep thought. This metaphor elevates wisdom to a high status.
The Conflict Between Fear and Truth: The final line reveals an internal struggle. The poet has acquired a profound truth but is hesitant to share it due to fear.
