May 15 is the National Commemoration Day of the renowned poet Ferdowsi, the influential Persian poet and author of the Persian epic Shahnameh. The Persians regard Ferdowsi as the greatest of their poets. For nearly a thousand years, they have continued to read and listen to recitations from his masterwork, the Shahnameh, in which the Persian national epic found its final and enduring form.
