Robaei is a Persian poetic form that consists of a quatrain, or four lines, with a rhyme scheme of either AABA or AAAA. The word ruba’i means “four” in Arabic, and the plural form of ruba’i is rubaiyat, which is often used to refer to a collection of quatrains.
Some famous examples of rubaiyat are the ones attributed to Omar Khayyam, a 12th-century Persian poet, mathematician, and astronomer. His quatrains were translated into English by Edward FitzGerald in the 19th century, and became very popular and influential in Western literature
Create New Robaeiتا چند اسیر عقل هر روزه شویم
در دهر چه صد ساله چه یکروزه شویم
در دِه تو به کاسه می از آن پیش که ما

Description:
A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
How long shall we be the daily prisoners of reason,
In this world, be it a hundred years or just a day?
In your village, let's drink from the wine cup before
We become pots in the potter's workshop.
بر مفرش خاک خفتگان میبینم
در زیرزمین نهفتگان میبینم
چندانکه به صحرای عدم مینگرم
ناآمدگان و رفتگان میبینم

A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
Upon the carpet of earth, I see those who sleep,
Beneath the ground, those who lie deep.
As I gaze upon the desert of non-existence,
I see those who have not come and those who have ceased.
برخیزم و عزمِ بادهٔ ناب کنم
رنگِ رخِ خود به رنگ عنّاب کنم
این عقل فضولپیشه را مُشتی مِی
بر روی زنم چنانکه در خواب کنم

A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
I'll rise and seek pure wine to drink,
And dye my cheeks the color of pomegranate.
With a handful of wine, I'll silence this curious mind,
And strike it down as if in sleep.
برخیز ز خواب تا شرابی بخوریم
زان پیش که از زمانه تابی بخوریم
کاین چرخ ستیزهروی ناگه روزی
چندان ندهد زمان که آبی بخوریم
Description:
A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
Arise from sleep, let's drink wine, my friend,
Before time's harshness brings us to our end.
For this contentious wheel of fortune may,
Suddenly deny us even time to drink water.
این چرخ فلک که ما در او حیرانیم
فانوس خیال از او مثالی دانیم
خورشید چراغدان و عالم فانوس
ما چون صوریم کاندر او حیرانیم
Description:
A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
This spinning sky in which we're lost and blind,
Let's liken it to a lantern of the mind.
The sun's the lampstand, the world a lantern's light,
And we are shadows, wandering in the night.
ای دوست بیا تا غمِ فردا نخوریم
وین یک دمِ عمر را غنیمت شمریم
فردا که ازین دیرِ فنا درگذریم
با هفتهزارسالگان سربهسریم
Description:
A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
O friend, come let us not worry about tomorrow,
But seize this fleeting moment of life.
For when we leave this mortal abode,
We will be companions to those who have lived seven thousand years.
با سرو قدی تازهتر از خرمن گل
از دست منه جام می و دامن گل
زان پیش که ناگه شود از باد اجل
پیراهن عمر ما چو پیراهن گل
Description:
A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
With a cypress-like figure, fresher than a bed of roses,
Take the wine cup and the skirt of the rose from my hand,
Before the sudden wind of death tears it away,
Like the garment of our life, like the garment of a rose.
از جرم گِل سیاه تا اوج زحل
کردم همه مشکلاتِ کلی را حل
بگشادم بندهای مشکل به حیل
هر بند گشاده شد به جز بند اجل
Description:
A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
From the black clay of earth to Saturn's height,
I've solved all universal problems with might.
With cunning, I've untied every knot so tight,
Except the bond of death, which holds its plight.
ایام زمانه از کسی دارد ننگ
کو در غم ایام نشیند دلتنگ
می خور تو در آبگینه با ناله چنگ
زان پیش که آبگینه آید بر سنگ
Description:
A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
Time shames anyone who sits in sorrow,
Longing for days that have gone by.
Drink from your crystal goblet to the sound of the lute,
Before the goblet is dashed against the stone.
در کارگه کوزهگری رفتم دوش
دیدم دو هزار کوزه گویا و خموش
ناگاه یکی کوزه برآورد خروش
کو کوزهگر و کوزهخر و کوزه فروش

A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
Yesterday I went to the potter’s shop,
And saw two thousand pots, both mute and deep.
Suddenly one pot cried out with a roar,
“Where is the potter, the donkey, and the seller?”
خیام اگر ز باده مستی خوش باش
با ماهرخی اگر نشستی خوش باش
چون عاقبت کار جهان نیستی است
انگار که نیستی چو هستی خوش باش
Description:
A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
If Khayyam, from wine, is drunk and glad,
If with moon-faced beauty you are clad,
Since the end of the world’s affairs is naught,
Be as if you’re not, while you are, be glad.
جامی است که عقل آفرین میزندش
صد بوسه ز مهر بر جبین میزندش
این کوزهگر دهر چنین جام لطیف
میسازد و باز بر زمین میزندش
Description:
A Beautiful Rubai by Omar Khayyam
English Translation:
A cup it is that the Mind Divine doth shape,
A hundred kisses of love upon its brow it doth lay.
This potter of time, such a delicate cup,
Doth fashion, and then upon the ground doth cast it away.
